We look forward to welcoming you to what should be a truly spectacular event, what is set to
be one of VATSIM's biggest event ever!

After the success of last year’s event, one of the world's busiest airspaces will come alive again for
what is set to be one VATSIM's biggest events ever. Openskies 2011 aims to bring you a better,
busier and more enjoyable event than has ever been witnessed on VATSIM before.

Six of our premier airports; Bristol, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted have
been selected, and will be fully staffed to provide you with a huge range and variety of over
1100 bookable flights in the space of five hours. There are over 40 airports in the UK alone and
Openskies allows you to experience some of these airports fully staffed and full to capacity
resulting in you - the pilot; experiencing what it actually feels like to fly real-world in the United
Kingdom, showcasing our airports at breaking-point capacity, heavily crowded airspaces and
aircraft that are separated by just only 1000ft vertically and 3 miles laterally.

The bookable flights offer an exceptional range of possibilities; from flying some of the biggest
airliners in the world, to the occasional private jets and general aviation. These flights also
include just over 180 transatlantic flights which is the same amount as our real world
counterpart’s experience during the duration of the event. Openskies is truly an event like no
other.

To help with the smooth running of the event, we are grateful to the following VATSIM divisions
for their support. Belux vACC, Dutch vACC, VATSIM France, VATEIR, Eurocenter vACC & VATSIM
Canada.

The sky really is the limit!!

Click here for more information and flight bookings.
You can view our event plan here

Please note our website & bookings opens on the 1st of November 2011 at 1900z,
unfortunately due to forecasted high demand some airports may become fully booked before
the event. It's strongly recommended that you book as soon as possible to avoid
disappointment, we also send out reminders closer to the event of your booking.

I heard from a friend that Openskies 2010 was a huge success! I just have 1 question. Will there be predetermined flight plans to choose from?

Hi Zachary,

That is correct, which from the feedback last year made it a more worthwhile event.. Also in addition 15 of some of the Biggest Virtual Airlines on the VATSIM network are participating, specifically flying across the North Atlantic.

It was a fantastic start to hopefully many events for the UK flagship event.

Kindest Regards,

Robbie

A whooping 380 flights have been 'reserved' by Virtual Airlines for this years Openskies 2011 event. Quite a big achievement, because that is the amount of traffic that flew last year. This does not include to forget that we have over 700+ real world flights also bookable this year, so this truly is going to be one NOT to miss!

Thanks all for making VATSIM-UK's Openskies event what it is today!!!

Robbie

All,

As has been announced through more than one medium now the site is live. This means you are able to book flights and view content. Booking a flight will see you receive a confirmation email outlining the details of said flight, this is only if you have provided an address to send one to. Otherwise all flight details are viewable in the 'Pilot Area'.

Oceanic flights will not be confirmed by email but will be sent out up to a few hours before the event in line with the current NAT tracks.

If there are any problems or bugs you find, although I have tried my best to get rid of them do get in touch.

Enjoy.
What?

Hello Robbie. Are there any oceanic flights that ARN'T taken up by VA's? The reason why i'm asking this is because all of the destinations to the US that I can see are taken up by them.

Cheers,
Ben

OK, I can see them now. It's just that a lot of the earlier flights are already taken.

Cheers :-)

Celestyn,

I have just tried booking a flight and it displays fine. I can see you have booked at least one, they should display just under the text beneath the image on the top right hand side...?

Hello Harry,

I have tried booking two flights now, both appear booked on the system. However, I think I have the same problem as Celestyn because I cannot see the flights I booked, and cancel one of them. It seems however that a lot of flights have been booked already, and it will be a popular event!

Cheers,
Ben
